What does Medicare Plan G cost in Florida?
In 2026, Medicare Supplement Plan G costs about $185 to $245 a month for a 65-year-old woman who doesn't use tobacco in Palm Beach County, about $195 to $255 in Broward, and about $305 to $440 in Miami-Dade, based on published estimates from Florida rate filings. On top of the premium, you pay the Part B deductible, $283 in 2026, and then Plan G covers the rest of your Medicare-approved costs.
Your exact price depends on the insurance company, your ZIP code, your age when you buy, your sex and whether you use tobacco. Because Plan G's coverage is identical at every company, choosing the right company is how you save. Here's what drives the price in Florida and how to pay less.
Plan G prices in South Florida (2026)
| County | Plan G per month | Plan G per year | Plan N per month (for comparison) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Palm Beach | $185 – $245 | $2,220 – $2,940 | $155 – $210 |
| Broward | $195 – $255 | $2,340 – $3,060 | $160 – $220 |
| Miami-Dade | $305 – $440 | $3,660 – $5,280 | $275 – $390 |
Published 2026 estimates for a 65-year-old woman who doesn't use tobacco, based on 2026 Florida rate filings (South Florida Medicare Supplement 2026 guide). Rates for men and tobacco users are usually higher. For a statewide reference, NerdWallet's 2026 sample for a 65-year-old woman in Jacksonville ranged from $221 to $286 a month (NerdWallet).
Notice the gap between the lowest and highest price in each county: $60 a month or more for exactly the same coverage. Over ten years that's more than $7,000.
What Plan G covers, and what you still pay
Plan G pays nearly all the costs Original Medicare leaves behind:
- The Part A hospital deductible ($1,736 per benefit period in 2026) and hospital coinsurance
- Part B coinsurance (the 20% Medicare doesn't pay) for doctor visits, tests and outpatient care
- Part B excess charges, up to 15% more that some doctors can bill
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance, blood, and hospice coinsurance
- 80% of emergency care abroad, after a $250 deductible, up to $50,000 in your lifetime
What you still pay: your Part B premium ($202.90 a month standard in 2026), the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026), and prescriptions through a separate Part D plan. Plan G doesn't include dental, vision or hearing.
Your full monthly Medicare budget with Plan G
| Cost | Monthly (2026) |
|---|---|
| Part B premium (standard) | $202.90 |
| Plan G, 65-year-old woman in Broward (midpoint) | about $225 |
| Part D plan (national average) | about $34.50 |
| Total | about $462 |
| Plus once a year: Part B deductible | $283 |
In return, your yearly medical costs for Medicare-covered care are close to fixed, whether you see the doctor twice or spend a week in the hospital.
What changes your Plan G price
- The insurance company: the biggest factor. Each company sets its own price for the same plan.
- Your age when you buy: Florida requires every Medicare Supplement to be priced on an issue-age basis, so your rate is based on your age when you buy and won't rise just because you get older. (Some websites say Florida uses attained-age pricing; the Florida Department of Financial Services says otherwise.)
- Your ZIP code: Miami-Dade costs far more than Broward or Palm Beach.
- Sex and tobacco use: men and tobacco users usually pay more.
- Discounts: many companies offer a household discount if you live with a spouse or partner, and some discount annual or bank-draft payment.

Why Plan G premiums still go up
Issue-age pricing stops age-based increases, but companies can still raise rates for everyone in a plan. Medical inflation, more hospital and outpatient use, and changes in a company's pool of members all push premiums up. For 2026, some Florida Plan G members saw increases of 5% to 12%, according to a South Florida agency's review of 2026 rates.
That's why the company's rate history matters as much as today's price. A company that starts low but raises rates sharply every year can cost more over time than one that starts a little higher and stays steady.
Should you switch companies if your price goes up?
Maybe. Because Plan G coverage is identical at every company, moving to a cheaper company doesn't reduce your coverage. The catch: outside your guaranteed windows, the new company can ask health questions and may decline you. If you're in good health and your premium jumped by 8% to 10% or more, it's worth comparing.
Never cancel your current policy until the new one is approved. Florida gives you a 30-day free look on a new policy, so you can return it for a full refund if you change your mind.
High-deductible Plan G: a lower-premium option
High-deductible Plan G covers the same things as Plan G, but only after you pay a yearly deductible of $2,950 in 2026, set by CMS. In exchange, the premium is much lower; in Florida some high-deductible Plan G premiums start under $100 a month.
| Yearly cost (illustration) | Plan G at $225/mo | High-deductible G at $60/mo |
|---|---|---|
| Premiums | $2,700 | $720 |
| Healthy year (little care) | $2,700 + $283 = $2,983 | $720 + small costs |
| Worst year (major care) | $2,983 | $720 + $2,950 = $3,670 |

In this example, high-deductible Plan G saves about $2,000 in a healthy year and costs about $690 more in the worst year. It can suit someone healthy with savings to cover the deductible.
Plan G or Plan N?
Plan N costs about $30 to $35 a month less in Broward and Palm Beach, but you pay up to $20 per doctor visit, up to $50 for an ER visit that doesn't lead to admission, and any Part B excess charges. If you see doctors often or use specialists who charge excess fees, Plan G usually wins. Compare Plan G and Plan N in Broward and Palm Beach.
Plan G if you're under 65 in Florida
If you have Medicare because of a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease, Florida gives you a 6-month window to buy a Medicare Supplement with guaranteed issue once you have Parts A and B. Premiums for people under 65 are usually much higher than at 65. When you turn 65, you get another open enrollment window and can move to a 65-and-over rate without health questions, which often cuts the premium sharply.
Plan G for snowbirds
Plan G works with any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, so the same policy covers you in Florida in winter and in New York, Ohio or North Carolina in summer. Your premium is based on your Florida address if Florida is your permanent home. For people who split the year, that nationwide freedom is often what makes the premium worth paying.
Are Plan G premiums tax-deductible?
They can be. Medicare Supplement premiums count as medical expenses if you itemize deductions, and self-employed people may be able to deduct them as health insurance premiums. Rules depend on your situation, so ask your tax advisor.
How to get the lowest Plan G price in Florida
- Buy during your Medigap Open Enrollment: the six months starting with Part B at 65, when you can't be turned down or charged more for health.
- Compare many companies, not just the one you've heard of. The same Plan G can differ by $60 or more a month.
- Check rate history, not just today's price.
- Ask about household and payment discounts.
- Review every year, and compare if your rate jumps.
Two example situations
A 65-year-old woman in Pembroke Pines is starting Part B on her birthday. Buying Plan G in her open enrollment window, she compares companies ranging from about $195 to $255 a month in Broward and picks one with a steady rate history, saving about $600 a year over the most expensive option.
A couple in Boynton Beach, both 66, each need a Medicare Supplement. By choosing a company that offers a household discount and paying annually, they lower their combined Plan G premium while keeping the exact same coverage.

Plan G cost questions
How much is Plan G per month in Florida?
For a 65-year-old woman who doesn't use tobacco, published 2026 estimates are about $185–$245 in Palm Beach, $195–$255 in Broward and $305–$440 in Miami-Dade. Prices vary by company, ZIP code, sex and tobacco use.
Does Plan G go up with age in Florida?
Not because of age alone. Florida requires issue-age pricing, but companies can raise rates for everyone in a plan because of medical costs.
What is the deductible for Plan G in 2026?
Regular Plan G has no deductible of its own; you pay the Part B deductible, $283 in 2026. High-deductible Plan G has a $2,950 deductible in 2026.
Why is Plan G more expensive in Miami-Dade?
Companies price by area based on local health care costs and use, and Miami-Dade's are higher, so its Plan G premiums are well above Broward's and Palm Beach's.
Is Plan G worth the cost?
For many people, yes. It turns unpredictable medical bills into a steady monthly premium and lets you see any doctor who accepts Medicare. We compare it against Plan N and Advantage for your situation.
Does Plan G cost more if I'm under 65?
Usually yes. In Florida, people under 65 with Medicare can buy a Supplement with guaranteed issue in their first 6 months, then move to a lower 65-and-over rate when they turn 65.
Can I change Plan G companies to save money?
Yes, if you qualify. Outside your guaranteed windows, the new company can ask health questions. Don't cancel your current policy until the new one is approved.
